Old man’s beard is a lichen that grows on old trees in damp areas.  It is profuse in the Pacific Northwest.  It is regarded as an immune tonic for long-term immune enhancement or acute conditions, particularly those involving the respiratory and urinary systems.

Supercritical extractions are very concentrated so the recommended dilution of Usnea is 0.2-0.6% in a carrier fluid.  The extract dissolves and disperses easily.  Usnea is typically used as an antifungal and/or antimicrobial addition to a preparation made with water, wine, alcohol, or oil for internal or topical use.

Traditionally, usnea is regarded as a strong treatment best administered under the supervision of a qualified health care professional, however, there are some safe uses such as a douche with only a drop or two per use.  It can also be mixed with a carrier and use topically for wound healing.  These are safe, but longer-term use should be overseen by a professional.

Contents:  CO2 extract of Usnea barbata lichen.  Because of the method of extraction, this fluid does not contain solvent residues.
